Cindy Circle was not feeling well.  She had just come down with a cold and told all of her SHAPEL friends NOT to come over to play.  She did not want to spread her germs.  “Ah choo!” she sneezed as she grabbed another tissue.  “Ah choo!” She sneezed again.  Now her nose was stuffy too.  When will I feel better? Cindy Circle wondered.  She closed her eyes and quickly fell fast asleep.

A little while later, the sound of the doorbell woke her up.  She walked to the front door and opened it.   She looked around, but no one was there – just a huge box and a card that had her name on it.  After bringing the box inside, she opened the card and read what it said.

Dear Cindy Circle,

Enjoy your box of “get well goodies!”  We miss you and hope you get well soon!  Thanks for not spreading your germs!

Love,

Tommy Triangle, Suzy Square, Debbie Diamond, Ricky Rectangle, and Otto Oval

Friends are really important Cindy thought to herself as she smiled. They always brighten up your day!

Inside the box there were coloring books, crayons, pencils, drawing paper, books to read, a giant box of tissues, two bottles of hand sanitizer, and a thermos filled with Ricky Rectangle’s homemade chicken soup.  There was even a loaf of his famous pumpkin bread for dessert. “Wow!  That was so nice.  The chicken soup smells delicious, and I have a loaf of Ricky Rectangle’s pumpkin bread all to myself.  I feel better already.”

Cindy Circle went back to bed and took a little nap.  She knew it was important to get plenty of rest with a cold.  It is also important to drink liquids like water, wash your hands frequently to avoid spreading germs, and ALWAYS cover your mouth by sneezing or coughing into your inner elbow just like Tommy Triangle had taught his SHAPEL friends.

After Cindy Circle woke up from her nap, she had a bowl of soup and a big piece of pumpkin bread.  YUM!

The next day Cindy Circle felt SO MUCH better!  She was not sneezing any more, and her nose was no longer stuffy.

Tomorrow I can spend time with my friends she thought to herself.  “My cold is gone!  YIPPEE!  I am going to draw some pictures and write thank you notes for the box of ‘get well goodies.’”

Later that afternoon Cindy Circle tried to deliver her thank you notes, but she could not locate Ricky Rectangle.  “Where could he be?” she wondered.  She walked over to the Rectangle Ranch, and there he was, putting a blanket on his horse Rusty.

She noticed that all of the other horses were over by the barn.

Just then Cindy Circle heard Rusty the horse make a strange sound.

IT WAS A VERY LOUD “AH CHOO!”

“Uh oh!” said Cindy Circle.  “I guess horses can get sick too!  Is Rusty okay?” she asked Ricky Rectangle.   “No, he has a cold,” replied Ricky.    “That’s why I have him away from the rest of the horses.  We don’t want to spread germs and get the other horses sick.”

Cindy Circle thought about how much she loved the box of get well goodies from her SHAPEL friends while she was sick.  It was like magic – it really made her feel better.  “Wait a minute Ricky.  I’ll be right back!  I have an idea.”

She ran over to find the other SHAPELS®.  In a few minutes, they all came back to the ranch with a wagon full of “get well goodies” for Rusty…apples, carrots, hay, and buckets of water!  “That’s perfect,” said Ricky Rectangle.

The next day Rusty the horse was feeling so much better!

“It must be the magic of friendship – works every time,” said Tommy Triangle.  “After all, horses need good friends too!”

If you have a friend who is sick with a cold or not feeling well, try to make a card or drawing that would cheer them up!  Remember, the magic of friendship really works!

It was another good day in SHAPELTOWN®!
